FAQ

Here you will find frequently asked questions; you should be able to find most of the answers you are looking for.

What warranty do I get with Carbonetic parts?
For warranty information please visit our warranty page.

Blade clutch

Do you offer an unsprung hub?
Yes we do, we offer both the sprung and unsprung hub, you will need to state which one you would prefer when you order your clutch. For vehicles that are used more aggressively and compete in drift, drag and circuit and we would recommend the unsprung hub. You can still use the unsprung hub for day to day vehicles as modulation is still very good in all types of driving conditions.

Will this fit on to my standard flywheel?
Yes it will the clutch is designed as a direct OEM fit to a OEM flywheel. Some OEM flywheels have deep ridges, in order to achieve full performance from the clutch the flywheel surface must be smooth, free from any ridges or grooves on the friction surfaces. If you the flywheel has deep ridges/grooves then this can cause clutch judder.

Can I use my own clutch cover?
Yes you can but we highly recommend you use the Carbonetic clutch cover. If you are going to use your own cover, please make sure the friction surface is smooth without any ridges or grooves and the cover has a higher clamp force than the OEM cover. If you find that the friction surface is not smooth do not use this with the Blade clutch. Please also note that your own cover may not be able to hold the stated BHP.

How much power and torque can the Blade clutch hold?
The Blade can hold a maximum of 500 BHP + and 470 Ft-lb/650 NM + of torque this is with a 1300KG cover which may not be available for all models. Heavier pressure plates allow it to hold more power and torque but it may lead to judder.

Should I skim my flywheel when fitting this clutch?
If the flywheel clutch/friction surface is in poor condition we do not recommend skimming the surface of the flywheel. Skimming the clutch/friction area of the flywheel could lead to early clutch failure or clutch slip.

What are the brass looking fitments on the clutch, why do they protrude further than the Carbon friction material?
This is a special material that was developed for the blade clutch, because Carbon is harder wearing than metal, this material is to aid the bedding of clutch quickly and protect the flywheel.

Carbonetic Single/Twin/Triple Plate Clutches

Do Carbonetic clutches slip when cold?
No they do not, common belief is carbon slips from cold, our Carbon clutches do not slip when they are cold.

Does your clutch have an on/off feel, are they aggressive?
Not at all our clutches are the easiest to control, they almost feel stock in feel, very easy to modulate in all conditions.

How long until I can use the clutch to its full potential?
We recommend a bed in time of 800-1000 miles and avoid drag launches until bedded in or you will warp the pressure plates.

Are Carbonetic clutches easy to fit?
We advise the clutches to be fitted by a qualified mechanic. It’s imperative that fitting instructions are followed page by page. We strongly advise you to have your Carbonetic clutch fitted by your nearest Carbonetic dealer.

Do I need to buy anything else when I purchase the clutch?
No all kits come with everything you need to fit to your vehicle, unless otherwise stated

Should I warm up the clutch before a drag launch?
Yes you should, in order to minimize damage to the metal parts of the clutch you need to do a warm up procedure – this is documented in the operating instruction manual.

Are Carbonetic clutches fully serviceable?
Even though our clutches are designed for longevity there are times where you may want to refresh parts of the clutch. Carbonetic clutches are fully re-buildable with every part available.

Can I change my Twin plate into a triple plate?
Yes you can, the beauty of our clutches is that many parts are interchangeable. To convert your twin into a triple you will need 1 carbon plate, 1 pressure plate and 1 intermediate plate. Its advised you check the condition of the other plates before you do this, please read the overhaul manual.

Do you supply an RB30 flywheel?
Yes we can supply an RB30 flywheel.

Do you offer different Hubs, for example Holinger?
Yes we do, we supply hub fitments for Holinger, HKS, OS and Trust.

My clutch is not disengaging properly

When there are disengagement issues this is due to warp metal parts in the clutch; pressure plate and intermediate plate. During the “bed-in” process the carbon friction plates secrete a resin that coats the metal parts within the clutch, this special coating helps protect the metal parts during hard prolonged use. If there has been a poor bed-in procedure or a substantial amount of clutch slipping this can warp these metal parts. More information on this can be found in our Overhaul manual .

The carbon lsd

Are the Carbonetic LSD’s noisy in operation?
Not at all, our LSD’s are almost OEM quiet.

Do the LSD’s need to be bedded in?
Yes it does, we recommend you do about 180 miles and then change the LSD oil to remove any of the carbon deposits. Our technical section informs you about the bedding in.

What oil do I have to use, can I use normal LSD oil?
No we do not recommend standard gear oil with the Carbon LSD, we suggestion using the Carbonetic Oil available from your local Carbonetic dealer But if you cannot get hold of the Carbonetic oil, we have tested other brands that work with the Carbon LSD:

Drive Brand Name products name Viscosity
FR BP X9140S 80W-140
FF BP X9118S 75W-90
FR/FF NUTEC UW76 75W-140
FF ADVANTAG NEO Hi proof shock
FR ADVANTAG NEO RHD 75W-90
FR/MR A.S.H 250R 85W-140
FF/FR TOTAL PRO-R 75W-140

Are the LSD’s re-buildable?
Yes they are, we hold full stock of every part need to rebuild and service the LSD.

Can you tell me more about 1 way, 1.5 way and 2 way LSD’s?

1 way lsd: An LSD is activated only when the throttle is on and when the internal cam rings has an angle on only one side.

1.5 way lsd: The angle of the cam rings for the off-side is very close to 5-20 degrees which will make the LSD ineffective when the throttle is off (during deceleration). The Across 1.5-Way LSD will work  similar to 1-Way LSD during deceleration.

2 way LSD: The 2-Way cam rings angle are cut in the same degree on both sides (throttle on and throttle off sides). A 2-Way LSD will activate during both acceleration and deceleration. 2 way is a popular choice for drifting.
